The captain of Barcelona is not taking El Clásico for granted.
Blaugrana skipper Andrés Iniesta spoke to the press after training to preview this Saturday's giant game against Real Madrid. While on the surface this game is not as relevant to the La Liga title race as in previous seasons, this is still a Clásico, and of Barça's best players is taking the match as serious as possible.
According to Iniesta, the game is like a final, the first of many decisive matches on the road to another title-winning season. Here's a look at a few of his quotes:
"I would say, especially this time, that we don't take the game on in a different way. These games are different. It doesn't matter how the sides go into them, whether in better or worse shape. Everyone likes to win against their rivals. There's not long to go in the league and we can take another step forward, but we will not take on the game looking at the points difference. We will just be thinking about another game. It is the first final of all the finals we have left, because from here on all games will be finals.
"I think it's good to have a positive atmosphere, with confidence, but I don't think the euphoria is so good. I expect a very even, difficult game, where the small details will make the difference. We are focused on doing things well. To win to get closer to our objective, but with respect for our rivals, who deserve it."
"Of course [playing El Clásico after the international break] it's not the ideal situation, it's not the best to not be able to have players back until Thursday or Friday, but it's a normal situation when there are international breaks. Many times the Clasico has coincided with internaionals. It's not the best scene, but those who've been with their national teams have been competing, while those that have stayed here have been recovering. It is what it is, there's nothing more to it."
