The audacious project to renovate the Camp Nou and the entire Espai Barça will be a highly expensive project, so the club are getting some help to pay for it.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona have signed a contract with sports marketing company Van Wagner, based in the United States, to find a partner willing to acquire the naming rights of the New Camp Nou, which is set to be completed in 2021.
The Catalan club has been working with Van Wagner since last year, when they were brought to potentially help the Blaugrana find a new kit sponsor when the negotiations with Qatar Airways stalled. However, things worked out on that end, with Qatar close to agreeing on a new sponsorship agreement for the next five years. But Barça kept in touch with Van Wagner for future business, and they've reportedly signed a deal this week.
The North American company has signed naming rights deals worth more than US$ 2.5 billion, and their biggest win was selling the rights to the brand new american football stadium where the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets play. MetLife bought the rights in a 25-year, US$ 400 million contract, the biggest ever for a stadium in the United States.
Barcelona are hoping to get a similar figure for the Camp Nou. The Espai Barça project will cost a reported €600 million, and the club projects the naming rights will amount to 33% of the total cost. If they want to achieve that, they've certainly hired a company that knows how to deliver.
