Pedri and Gavi among 20 Golden Boy finalists

The two midfielders make the shortlist

Barcelona midfielders Pedri and Gavi are among 20 finalists for the 2021 Golden Boy award.

The trophy is handed out to the best Under-21 player and the winner will be announced on December 13.

The inclusion of Gavi will raise a few eyebrows as he was not included on any of the previous lists but has found a way in after breaking into the Barcelona team and the Spain side at the start of the season.

Pedri will no doubt be one of the favorites to pick up the award after cementing his place in the Barca team and playing a key role for Spain at Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.

Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland was the last player to be handed the award back in 2019 with Barcelona’s Ansu Fati taking the runner-up spot.

Lionel Messi is the only Barcelona player to have won the award....for now at least.
