The defender is looking forward to Sunday’s match
Gerard Pique is looking forward to Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou and thinks a win for Barcelona would prove a massive boost after a shaky start.
Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to impress so far in 2021-22 but will leapfrog Los Blancos in the table with three points on Sunday.
Pique, who heads into the match after scoring the winner against Dynamo Kiev, thinks a win for Barcelona would show the club can challenge for the title.
“I’m sure we’re going to have a good time. In a Clasico the result is more than three points. Beating the eternal rival gives you a lot of encouragement, strength, confidence,” he said.
“If you win a Clasico it gives you all this to face the next matches. You send a message that you can beat Real Madrid and that you can compete for LaLiga.
“In a Clasico it does not matter how you come, there are no favorites. The Clasico is totally separate. We have gone through some moments of crisis, but now we are recovering and up in the league.”
Pique also spoke about Ansu Fati, who has just committed his long-term future to the club, and made it clear that it’s unfair to put too much pressure on the youngster.
“Clubs like Barça or Madrid always need the figure of a decisive player at the top and who scores goals, especially when the most important player in history, such as Leo Messi, has left, but we have to be realistic,” he said.
“He is 18 years old and not we can burden him with a responsibility that does not touch him. It would not be good for him or for the club.”

Fati’s already shown his quality since he returned from his injury lay-off with goals against Levante and Valencia which will offer supporters optimism he can help Barca pick up an important Clasico win.
