Barca won’t get any better until Koeman goes

Another shameful night for the Catalans

Let’s get the elephant out of the room early. I was wrong. Very wrong as it turns out.

Ronald Koeman is not Barcelona’s saviour nor is he anywhere close to being so. The Dutchman is so out of his depth in the Camp Nou dugout now it’s embarrassing.

There are so many decisions from the game against Rayo that make no sense, and for him to come out after the match and say that Barca controlled the game is a sackable offence in itself.

What game was he watching because it sure as hell wasn’t the one taking place at Vallecas!

Riqui Puig has to be rubbing his hands together after that. Though he incredibly didn’t get on the pitch, Koeman preferring to bring on Luuk de Jong, Riqui must know that Koeman’s days are numbered.

There cannot be any coming back from this.

No wins away from Camp Nou this season and only one away goal scored... and we resort - again - to De Jong and Gerard Pique up front to get us out of a hole.

We’ve become a route one side, perhaps because we can’t even string two decent passes together.

Individually and collectively, everyone should hang their heads in shame. Rayo weren’t fantastic, but they were dogged, determined and hungry. Everything Barca should be without question.

Winning second balls, pressing at every possible moment, no pulling out of tackles or shirking the workload.

That comes from the manager and is honed on the training pitch, to be executed on match day.

Koeman’s Barca are now like a ship with a busted rudder. Disjointed and broken.

It can’t be allowed to go on a moment longer. Imagine if we can’t get a result at Dynamo Kyiv in a week’s time. Potentially out of this season’s Champions League at the group stage and, at this point, nowhere close to being capable to sustain a top four challenge.

Yes it’s still early in the season and yes, things can turnaround - just not under this regime.

Joan Laporta would be failing in his duty as president if he decides to once again back Koeman. Particularly as Xavi now appears ready to commit to Barca if they’ll have him.

What’s more damaging... leaving Koeman in charge until season’s end just because you don’t want to pay out, or bringing in someone else who’ll take time to mould the team but who’ll surely be like a breath of fresh air in the dressing room?

It’s a question we all know the answer to.

Time to go, Ronald.
