The current Chelsea coach wanted to one day play for the Catalans
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that in his playing days, he always dreamed he would one day be a part of FC Barcelona. The Bavarian played as a defender in the 90s for two lower league clubs in his home country: Stuttgarter Kickers and SSV Ulm.
While he never made it to the top level, he dreamed of playing at the Camp Nou, as revealed recently:
This comes from Sportweek, a magazine published by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which organized the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Italia. It was at that festival that Tuchel spoke and recalled moments from his playing days.
He was forced to retire as a player at just 24 years old due to a knee cartilage injury. He then would work as a youth team coach at VfB Stuttgart, six years after retiring as a player. He would eventually win the Under 19 Bundesliga title coaching that team’s U19 team. He eventually got to coach FC Augsburg II, before moving to the Mainz 05, and then eventually Borussia Dortmund
It was at Dortmund that he started earning his reputation as a top coach. That made Paris Saint-Germain sign him, though he was eventually sacked. He was picked up by Chelsea, and he totally turned the team around helped them win the UEFA Champions League.
