The Dutchman says there’s still plenty to play for
Memphis Depay has laughed off suggestions he may be regretting his move to Barcelona and feels the Catalan giants can turn their season around after a tough start.
The Dutchman joined from Lyon on a free transfer in the summer and enjoyed a great start with two goals and assist in his first three games.
However, the goals have dried up for Memphis and Barcelona recently but he’s hit back at suggestions he may be having second thoughts about his move to the Camp Nou.
“How could you ask that?” he said. “It’s Barcelona. I don’t think you understand how big this club is and what it means for a player if you move to a club like this. I would never regret it.
“Despite results, I’m really happy at the club. It’s been a difficult time. I don’t want to talk about that much, but people are acting like the season is already over.
“There are so many games to play. Everything is still open. But as a player you feel responsible and you take responsibility. You care. Every player takes responsibility at Barca. That’s normal for a club like Barcelona.”
Memphis is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands but has called for calm at Barcelona and says there’s no need to panic.
“We know what the situation is right now,” he added. “We know it’s difficult. [Playing with] young players, a lot of injuries. But I think [it’s a matter of time].
“Everybody is panicking and for a club like Barcelona it’s a new situation. They’re used to winning everything with beautiful football. This is a new situation, but I am not worried. I’m sure we will turn things around.”

Barcelona will be hoping Memphis can rediscover his goalscoring touch with the Netherlands. The forward bagged a hat-trick last time out against Turkey and will fancy his chances against Latvia and Gibraltar.
