Memphis had started the game by teeing up Virgil van Dijk for the opening goal from a corner and then went on to miss a penalty. However, he was quick to make amends by adding a second on 21 minutes.
The Barcelona attacker then had another chance from the spot in stoppage time at the end of the first half and this time made no mistake at all with his penalty to bring up the record.
Memphis’s goals also mean he now his 35 for his country, level with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Faas Wilkes. He’s just two behind Arjen Robben and Dennis Bergkamp and 15 off Robin van Persie.
The 27-year-old wasn’t done there either and picked up his second assist of the match after goals from Denzel Dumfries and Arnaut Danjuma had made it 5-0 to the Netherlands.
Memphis sealed a fine night’s work by setting up Donyell Malen for number six. The forward played a one-two with Wout Weghorst and then threaded the ball through to Malen to finish.
The results keeps the Netherlands top of Group G, two points clear of Norway, while Memphis tops the goals and assists charts in European qualifying.

Barca will be glad to see Memphis back in goalscoring form after hitting a bit of a dry patch for the Catalan giants and with key games against Valencia, Dynamo Kiev, and Real Madrid up next.
