Don’t expect any big names to arrive for a while
Barcelona’s economic vice president Eduard Romeu has a pretty gloomy outlook when it comes to transfers and doesn’t think the club will be able to sign the best players in the world for another two years.
The club’s ongoing financial mess has seen Barca forced to offload players and lower salaries, while the only new arrivals have been in the shape of free transfers.
CEO Ferran Reverter claimed last week it might be possible for Barca to sign superstars next summer, but Romeu reckons the Catalans still need to be really careful financially.
“It is very important that Barça recover the model that it should never have abandoned, with La Masia as the backbone of the team and the stars as accessories,” he said.
“I have to exercise prudence: we won’t be able to sign the best players in the world for two years.
“Now we have other priorities: lower salaries and bring them to market price. This is the handicap that we have compared to the other clubs.”

There have been a few hopeful rumors suggesting Barca may try to land Erling Haaland next summer from Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian goal machine is being tipped to move on and will surely have his pick of Europe’s top clubs after his goalscoring exploits in Germany.
