The defender is set for a spell out

Barcelona announced Thursday that Ronald Araujo is out with a hamstring injury sustained during World Cup qualifying action with Uruguay.

The defender was forced to return early from the national squad for further tests and it’s now been confirmed he’s set for a spell on the sideilnes.

Barca put out an official statement on the club’s website.

“Tests undertaken this morning confirmed that first team player, Ronald Araujo, has a right hamstring injury, making him unavailable for selection. The medical team will monitor how his injury evolves.”

The club haven’t said how long Araujo is expected to be out for but it looks like it’s going to be a couple of weeks and some important games.

Diario AS are reporting the Uruguayan will miss “2-3 weeks” which means no Araujo for Valencia, Dynamo Kiev or El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Barca will also be without Eric Garcia against Dynamo Kiev, as the Spain international is suspended following his red card against Benfica last time out in Europe.
