The defender is not getting as many minutes
FC Barcelona are considering going for Atlético Madrid’s Felipe to make up the numbers at centerback after Gerard Piqué’s injury, according to Diario AS.
The report says Barcelona already plan on bringing Eric Garcia from Manchester City and would want additional reinforcements, as apart from Piqué, Clément Lenglet, Ronald Araújo, and Samuel Umtiti have struggled with different levels of injury recently.
Felipe was a starter for Atlético last season just before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Europe, but he’s had less luck this season. While he has continued to play, he is not a guaranteed starter anymore.
In the past few matches, Diego Simeone has switched to a three-man line and used Stefan Savić, Mario Hermoso, and José María Giménez in defense, leaving Felipe as a bench player.
While a move to Barcelona, perhaps on loan, could be an attractive option for the Brazilian, it’s understood that Atlético would feel short-staffed without him. Thus, the Catalans may look elsewhere.
