A much-needed three points
Barcelona coach Rnoald Koeman admitted Sunday’s victory over Levante at the Camp Nou was important for his team after a disappointing start to the season.
Lionel Messi’s second-half goal proved to be the difference between the two sides as the Catalan giants were made to work hard for all three points.
Koeman seemed pretty happy after the match and feels the victory will give his team confidence ahead of the visit from Real Sociedad on Wednesday.
“It was a really important win. We know our situation in the league, we knew that after we lost to Cadiz we had to win. I think we deserved the three points. Today we created a lot of good chances and finally we scored a great goal. Let’s hope it’s good for the confidence because we will grow in that. It’s the first of three of this week that we play at home and we have to win.”
The Barcelona boss was also asked about Riqui Puig after a report published before the match claiming Koeman had accused the midfielder of leaking information from the dressing room earlier this season.
Puig didn’t feature at all against Levante, despite being spotted warming up in the second half, and Koeman didn’t really want to talk about the youngster after the final whistle.
“I won’t speak about a non sporting topic, I know there are things in the media but I don’t want to talk about it. It’s something between the dressing room and the technical staff and nothing else. He was warming up to come into the game at 0-0 but then, when we scored, the plan was different,
Barca now go on to play three games in a week before Christmas. Real Sociedad visit on Wednesday, Valencia are at the Camp Nou on Saturday and then Barca travel to Real Valladolid on December 22.
