A surprise line-up from the coach
Ronald Koeman discussed why he opted to change formation for Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Real Valladolid on Tuesday.
The Dutch coach went with three center-backs for the match and saw his team run out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Clement Lenglet, Martin Braithwaite and Lionel Messi.
Koeman explained why he had decided to make the change after the game.
“For this game we changed our formation to give us more security at the back and make the most of the quality of our full backs,” he said.
“At the same time, we were able to build plays without any problems and have lots of possession and players running between the lines. We saw a team that meant business, that showed good concentration and we created a lot of opportunities.”

One of the highlights of the match was the link-up play between Pedri and Messi, and Koeman also praised the 18-year-old for his display.
“Pedri is a very good player when he plays more centrally, between the lines and his connection with Leo and the others was very good,” he said.
“He is playing well, working hard and he is also important to us when he doesn’t have the ball, he looks very comfortable.”
Barca now have a few days off over Christmas before returning to training on Sunday ahead of their final La Liga match of 2020 at home to Eibar.
