The youngster continues to impress

Say it quietly but we are witnessing the birth of a genius.

At just 18 years of age, Pedri is quickly becoming the fulcrum of this Barcelona side. A player that is so completely in tune with the style of play and the players around him as to invite comparisons with some of the greats to have played the game.

Make no mistake, this kid is the gold standard.

There are some players who you just know how good they are going to become.

You just know. He can’t be pigeonholed and can already do it all.

Against Real Sociedad, the youngster did everything asked of him and then some.

Unlucky with a downward header, Pedri deserved a goal for his resilience and his brilliance.

In each position he’s played so far this season (4 or 5 by my count), he has always worked to the absolute maximum and done the best possible job he can. Not only is there no doubting his quality, but there’s absolutely no doubt about his commitment either.

I would contend that although he seems happy to be the man for all seasons, Ronald Koeman should find him a home for him and keep him there unless injuries dictate otherwise.

He’ll not complain wherever he’s stationed of course, but it’s important to define the parameters to some degree. By all means give him licence to roam, with the caveat that it’s not to the detriment to the team during a game.

This is the player that the club need to build a squad around in the future. Make him happy, give him whatever he wants.

Indulge him, for now, with his slightly wayward passing on occasion, which seems to be the only minor blot on his copybook.

All in for the cause, physical attributes as good as any in the squad, which comes as a surprise given how slight he is, immaculate timing and bravery.

This article can’t be written without touching on *that* tackle of course. That one instance summed up everything about Pedri.

Perhaps the best anecdote about him is the fact that Real Madrid turned him down for not being good enough! Are you kidding me?!

This kid is going to rule Barca and LaLiga for the next 15 years, and I’ve never been more sure of anything.

What’s more, his presence could be one of the reasons Leo Messi stays with the club. The bond they’ve formed already is great, and when Ansu Fati is back too, watching that trio dovetail together will be something else.
