Awful first half, bad defending, and three points wasted.
Barcelona’s winning streak in La Liga stops at two as the Blaugrana drew 2-2 with Valencia at Camp Nou. Barça were awful in the first half but came back strong in the second, but Valencia fought hard and played well enough to earn a big point at Camp Nou.
FIRST HALF
Barça played an absolutely terrible first half, struggling in attack and defense and allowing Valencia to be comfortable with and without the ball and bring plenty of danger on the counter.
Valencia played very well and deserved the lead, and they did it thanks to some terrible defending from Barça and a free header for Diakhaby. The visitors created another huge chance through Gómez, but Ter Stegen made a great save. And as Barça looked destined to go into halftime losing, they were given a gift on the form of a José Gayà penalty.
Lionel Messi missed the spot kick, but Jordi Alba got to the ball first and crossed it back to Messi who headed home a huge equalizer right before halftime. Going into the break, Barça deserved to lose but somehow weren’t and had a chance to win if they got better in the second half.
SECOND HALF
Barça played a solid second half, bringing the pressure and scoring a quick goal thanks to a great volley by Ronald Araujo, but Valencia managed to weather the storm, avoid a third goal from Barça and equalized through Maxi Gómez.
The final 20 minutes were wild, with the ball going from end to end like a basketball game and zero control by either team, who kept firing crosses into the box and counter attacking each other.
There were no more goals and the final whistle came to and a very entertaining second half. The draw is fair given how poorly Barça played the first half, but they came out strong in the final period and created enough to win. Good game this one.
