After defeating Celtic and Leicester, Barça have failed to complete a British treble in the International Champions Cup by going down to 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in front of 89,845 people, the second largest crowd ever to assemble at Wembley. Other than Juan Cámara, Luis Enrique began with only first-team players, reserving his Barça B contingent and those that have only recently reported back to training for the second half.

Barça are not used to defeats like the 4-0 inflicted on them by Liverpool this Saturday, but Luis Enrique insisted afterwards that the negative result is no cause for concern. "The faster pace of their players showed" he said after the final whistle. "But in the middle of the season, it’s unlikely that they’d have been able to get a result like that … It was a case of teams playing at very different rhythms. But it wasn’t our day either when it came to making mistakes. And you pay for such mistakes against teams like these."

Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre said the Spanish champions are "very disappointed and angry" with UEFA's decision to overlook Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez for the Best Player in Europe Award, branding the pair's snub as "scandalous". Messi and Suarez were not among the three finalists for the prize, with Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann selected.
