Report: Neymar to stay in Brazil, return to Barcelona after international break

Luis Enrique is giving the gold medalist a few days off

You will have to wait a few more weeks to see the 'MSN' trio back together at Barcelona.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barça manager Luis Enrique has given superstar Neymar Jr. permission to stay in Brazil this week. The Blaugrana expected Neymar back in training on Wednesday for the La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, but the coach decided to give the Brazilian a week of rest.

There are a few main reasons that led to Enrique making this decision: Neymar played six entire competitive matches in Rio 2016 with the Brazilian national team, including a grueling 120 minutes in the Olympic Final against Germany. The entire tournament lasted only 17 days, and without any preseason or training before the Olympics, Neymar is certainly tired and could be at risk of injury.

Another key reason for Lucho's decision is that Neymar will be called up to the Brazil squad that will face Ecuador and Colombia in the South American Qualifiers. Neymar would return to Barcelona, face Bilbao and fly right back to Brazil to represent the Seleção. Lucho decided that having Ney for only three days wouldn't be too helpful, and with Arda Turan's great performances replacing Neymar, Enrique is comfortable letting the player stay in his home country.

Neymar will return to Barça training on September 7, in time for the third La Liga game against Alavés. The other Brazilian Olympian, Rafinha Alcântara, will rejoin the Blaugrana squad this week, and will be available for the Bilbao clash.
