It seems like it's finally done... but is this just another false ending in the saga?
The Paco Alcacer saga could finally, finally, be done. For real this time. Or so they say.
We told you earlier about the report that Valencia was split on whether to allow the sale of Alcacer to Barcelona to go through, with owner Peter Lim in favor and the board against.
Basically Valencia needs the money, and Barcelona are offering a generous amount. But, the top brass at Valencia don't want the fans to lose faith as another top player is sold off.
Word is they wanted Alcacer to publicly plead for the move, to make him "the bad guy" and thus stay in the fans' good graces. But Paco himself didn't want to become a scapegoat. So while both the club (to a point) and the player wanted the move to happen, neither wants to be seen as the one forcing the issue.
Cadena SER and Mundo Deportivo now report Alcacer has made a plea directly to Valencia's president Lay Hoon Chan. If that's the case, that gives Valencia the chance to spin it as their hands being tied.
Hugo Ballester of Cadena COPE, Diario Sport and ESPN's Elmer Polanco have reported the fee is 30 million euro plus 5 in variables, while Jordi Blanco, writing for ESPN Deportes, says the fee is 35 million with Sergi Samper and "probably" also Munir El-Haddadi included. The deal is expected very soon - tomorrow morning in Barcelona, which is only in a few hours.
In any case, it seems the terms have been agreed on - both the transfer fee and salary to the player. The only roadblock is the disagreement within Valencia itself.
ESPN Deportes also reported that while earlier on, fans and even some within the Valencia top brass considered Alcacer "non-transferable," opinions have softened and given the right kind of deal, they may in the end go along with the sale.
All of this appears to suggest the Alcacer deal is imminent. But given how messy things are at that club sometimes, you just never know.
