CHAMPIONS!!!!
Barcelona are the 2016 Spanish Super Cup champions, with the Blaugrana winning the trophy with a 5-0 aggregate result after a 3-0 victory at Camp Nou, thanks to goals from Arda Turan (2) and Lionel Messi. The teams were heavily rotated by the coaches, and the Catalan giants prevailed to come out on top in both games and lift the eighth trophy under Luis Enrique, who wins the Super Cup for the first time in his career as player or manager.
FIRST HALF
The game started with good pressure from Sevilla, who forced passing mistakes from Barça and brought danger to the hosts at the beginning. But as time went on, the hosts slowly took control and began to dominate the game, keeping posession and finding spaces in Sevilla's defense.
Lionel Messi was phenomenal in the first period, deciding to play as a midfielder and being a big part of the passing game, looking to create for others rather than trying things himself. He assisted Arda Turan for the first goal in the 10th minute, and then continued to boss the midfield and basically dominate Sevilla all by himself.
There were very few shaky moments from the Blaugrana defense, but in one of those the Sevillistas had a great chance when Samuel Umtiti commited a penalty with a handball, but Claudio Bravo stopped the spot kick from Vicente Iborra. After two or three chances on the counter, Sevilla could have scored, but failed to beat Bravo.
At halftime, a fantastic performance from Messi, and a poor game from the Barça midfielders. But the title was surely won heading into the final period.
SECOND HALF
The second half began with a simply fantastic goal from Arda Turan, with the Turkish taking advantage from a bad pass from a Sevilla player and placing a beautiful shot over the keeper and into the bottom of the net for his second of the game.
Barça continued to have full control of the actions, and after creating so much for others, Messi had his goal, and it was a HEADER over Mercado for the third score. With both the game and the trophy won, and Sevilla not doing anything to trouble Bravo and the defense, the game became easy and very comfortable until the final whistle. Everything was perfect until yet another injury, this time to Javier Mascherano. Hopefully it's not serious.
In the end, a very good victory and the first title of the new season. Hopefully it's the first of many.
