OFFICIAL: Barcelona agree loan deals for two players

The Douglas Era is over, while Samper will get experience

Two members of the Barcelona squad will go out on loan this season.

The club announced on Friday that Douglas Pereira and Sergi Samper will join Sporting Gijón and Granada, respectively. Both players will be loaned for one campaign and have a chance to return to the club next season.

Douglas' case is fascinating, given that the Catalans were looking to get rid of the Brazilian all summer. After failing miserably to impress ever since signing from São Paulo in 2014, Douglas played only eight games in two seasons, and the club website is quick to remind us that Barça NEVER LOST with Douglas on the pitch, which is hilarious.

Barça were so desperate to send Douglas packing that they agreed to pay the player's full wages while he's at Gijón, which is not common on loan deals. But they made sure to put a clause on the contract that obligates Sporting to actively use Douglas in the first team during the season. If they don't, they'll have to pay a penalty fee.

The same goes for Samper, that will join Granada under the strict condition that he's given plenty of minutes under new manager Paco Jémez. Barça's announcement says that Granada "are committed to contractually to making sure the player participates actively during his loan period", which is good news for the development of a very promising La Masia product.

The Douglas Era is over. The Samper Era is just getting started.
