Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly unsettled in Turin and is “sending a message” to Barcelona that he regrets not moving to the Camp Nou and would like to head to La Liga and link up with Frenkie de Jong.

According to Catalunya Radio, the Dutch center-back has also been talking to De Jong about his future and the possibility of moving to Barca, and the Barca midfielder has told him to go for it.

Barca were heavily linked with De Ligt before he left Ajax for Juventus in 2019. He has subsequently said he turned down PSG and Barca because he thought he “could grow faster at Juve” and become a “more complete player.”

Yet it doesn’t seem as if the move has worked out quite a planned. De Ligt has not had quite the impact expected at Juve and it seem he’s now thinking he made the wrong choice.

De Ligt would surely be a great signing for Barca, particularly given the club’s continued defensive problems, but such a deal looks all but impossible to pull off given the club’s debts.

Cat Radio mention the possibility of a player-exchange deal but also acknowledge that any possible operation to land De Ligt would be “complicated.”
