The midfielder was a second-half sub
Riqui Puig sent a message to supporters after Barcelona’s final La Liga game of the season on Saturday at Eibar.
Ronald Koeman made plenty of changes for the game but still opted against starting Puig with the midfielder eventually arriving in the second half.
Barca ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s late goal, and Puig offered the following after the final whistle.
He wrote, “We finished the season with a victory even though we would have liked to win the double to celebrate with all of you. Thank you for all the messages of support. Visca Barcelona!”
It’s been a tough season for Puig who was advised to go out on loan at the start of the campaign but opted to stay and fight for his place. He has managed a few highs, such as the penalty winner in the Super Cup and a header against Elche, but would surely have liked more game time.
Puig may now have some tough decisions to make about his future, particularly if Ronald Koeman does stay on next season. The midfielder has also been left out of the Spain Under-21 squad for the Euros and surely needs to play regularly next season.
