The Dutchman will only stay if a replacement can’t be found
Barcelona president Joan Laporta met with coach Ronald Koeman on Tuesday and while we don’t have a decision on the Dutchman’s future there have been a few leaks about what happened in the meeting.
Laporta apparently told Koeman that he wants about 15 days to talk to possible replacements about taking over at the Camp Nou, according to Catalunya Radio.
The only way Koeman will continue and see out the second year of his contract is if those talks do not end in an agreement.
It had been thought that Laporta was keen to get things wrapped up quickly, but the latest update suggests he is willing to take a bit of time.
The noises coming from Koeman’s camp have been a bit different. The Dutchman’s agent Rob Jansen has now told Cadena SER, “In my opinion, Koeman will continue at Barça.”
Meanwhile, another signing that Koeman reportedly requested moved a step closer to arriving on Wednesday. Fabrizio Romano reports that Georginio Wijnaldum has reached a “verbal agreement” with Barca and is “expected to sign his contract in the next few days.”
