The Belgium boss is reportedly a target

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has reportedly emerged as a possible target to replace Ronald Koeman as Barcelona coach.

According to ESPN, the 47-year-old is under consideration and is “one of several options” to take over from the Dutchman this summer.

President Joan Laporta met with Koeman on Tuesday to discuss the future and reportedly told the 58-year-old he wants more time to talk to possible replacements.

Martinez seems to be one candidate even though he is currently preparing for Belgium’s European Championship campaign next month.

ESPN reckon that Martinez is “happy where he is” and would rather stay put but does have a clause in his contract if a big club comes calling.

The report adds that Laporta just isn’t convinced by Koeman but has already seen candidates such as Julian Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick take other jobs.

Xavi remains a contender but it seems the club legend doesn’t appear to have the backing of the whole Barcelona board currently.
