The youngster looks set to stay in France

Nice chairman Jean-Pierre Rivère has confirmed the club is keen to keep hold of Barcelona loanee Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent basis.

The defender joined in the winter after a tough spell at Benfica and went on to make 17 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side.

Nice has the option to make the transfer permanent for €8.5 million, plus €7 million in variables.

Rivère offered an update on the deal to Nice-Matin. He explained, “The Todibo issue is well under way, he is part of the next coach’s project.”

Todibo made it clear earlier this season he really didn’t want to go back to Barca. He said, “I want to stay, that’s what I want. But we have to ask the directors. Personally, I am very focused on the end of the season.”

The Frenchman has previously revealed his frustration at moving to Barcelona and then not playing and added, “I would rather wear the CS Sedan Ardennes shirt and play than go to Barcelona and not play.”

Todibo looked an exciting prospect when he first arrived at Barca in 2019 but never really got a proper chance to impress at the Camp Nou and said himself he didn’t have the right attitude at the time.
