The Liverpool midfielder could arrive on a free transfer
Georginio Wijnaldum has not “closed the door” on a transfer to FC Barcelona from Liverpool, according to a new report. The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Catalonia last summer, but it never came to pass. The rumors say his contract has still not been extended, meaning he will be able to negotiate with other clubs in three weeks’ time for a transfer next summer.
It’s understood that he has yet to renew his contract with the Reds, and recently he spoke on the situation, but only to say that while he was happy at Liverpool, he was not ready to discuss his contract in public.
Wijnaldum was linked strongly with the Catalan giants in the press last summer, partly because Ronald Koeman, who coached him in the national team, arrived at Barcelona. But ultimately he did not come to the Camp Nou and even said he was not really that close to leaving Liverpool.
Still, the rumors say that the Scouse club has identified Yves Bissouma of Brighton & Hove Albion as a possible replacement for the Dutchman, should he leave on a free next season.
