The midfielder is due to arrive this summer
Matheus Fernandes signed for Barcelona in January from Palmeiras on a five-year contract but has been largely forgotten about since then.
The midfielder is not due to arrive at the Camp Nou until the summer and is currently on loan with Real Valladolid.
The 21-year-old made his La Liga debut against Atletico Madrid on Saturday and spoke afterwards about the future and his plans to return to Barcelona.
“It will be Barcelona who will decide. The agreement is to present myself to the club for the next season at the end of this season. But, a place for a foreigner needs to be vacant. The desire, of course, is to play for Barcelona and be ready, but I must be patient and respect Valladolid, who received me very well.
“My mind is now 100% in Valladolid because football is very constant. You cannot make plans. At the moment, my goal is playing as many games and minutes as possible to gain experience. I tell my parents that I have to be as patient like when Barcelona came to me the first time. I’m training hard and I’ll let things happen naturally.”

It sounds as though Fernandes could be sent out on loan against next season, although much may depend on how many games he plays between now and the end of the season.
He may also be handed the chance to impress in pre-season with Barcelona, although it’s difficult to predict what is going to happen in the transfer window this summer with clubs affected financially by the coronavirus pandemic.
