Following an impressive second half performance and a big win against Athletic Bilbao last Tuesday, Barcelona return to action in La Liga with what is always a tricky road trip away to Celta Vigo. The Blaugrana are level on points with leaders Real Madrid and play before them once again this weekend, which gives the two-time defending champions a chance to put some pressure on their rivals.
Quique Setién is still searching for his best team but he may have found a nice formula on Tuesday: Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati completely changed the game against Bilbao with their energy and creativity, and the two absolutely must start this one. Their youth is important in this busy fixture list, and with Barça facing a season-defining game against Atlético Madrid next Tuesday, it’ll be good to rest some big names and give the kids a chance to shine.
Celta come into this one in danger of being dragged into the relegation fight with a loss, which doesn’t make sense with such a solid squad filled with talented attacking players. Celta have been a team that struggles to score and drops too many points from winning positions, but a recent 6-0 win against Alavés showed this can be a very dangerous side.
Rafinha Alcântara, Denis Suárez and Jeison Murillo will face their former club, and all of them have become undisputed starters and key members of this Celta team. Led by the underrated Iago Aspas, the Celestes are good enough to cause Barça all sorts of trouble. Don’t let their position in the table fool you. Celta could look really good on Saturday.
POSSIBLE LINEUPS
Barcelona (4-3-3): Ter Stegen; Semedo, Umtiti, Lenglet, Firpo; Vidal, Rakitic, Puig; Messi, Braithwaite, Fati
Celta (3-4-3): Blanco; Murillo, Araújo, Aidoo; Vázquez, Yokuslu, Bradaric, Olaza; Rafinha, Aspas, Denis
PREDICTION
I don’t like facing former players and there’s three of them in this one, but Barça will find a way: 2-1 to the good guys.
