Barcelona have confirmed their place in the 2016 Copa del Rey Final with a 1-1 second leg win/draw away from home against Valencia with goals from Álvaro Negredo and Wilfrid Kaptoum. With only one regular starter on the team, the Blaugrana struggled, but ultimately survived the hosts and maintained the giant advantage of the first leg. More importantly, Luis Enrique's men extended their unbeaten streak to a record-breaking 29 games. Perfect night.
FIRST HALF
The Blaugrana had a sharp start to this one, controlling possession through a bossing Sergi Roberto in midfield. Coach Enrique surprised with a three-man backline to send his full-backs forward. It worked in the initial minutes, with Aleix Vidal providing width and combining well with a lively Munir El-Haddadi.
But as the minutes went on, the visitors started wasting easy passes and giving away the ball in dangerous positions, which triggered Valencia into a more dominating output. And then, an unexpected long ball from the defense, found a wide-open, onside Álvaro Negredo, who at first tried to chip Ter Stegen, but the ball deflected off the keeper into a better position for the skipper, who easily finished to give the Bats the lead.
At halftime, the reserve Blaugranes needed to improve their performance and search for a record-setting equalizer.
SECOND HALF
They did not improve, and continued to lack intensity, precision and creativity. Valencia were a little better and put pressure on the Catalan defense, that was always ready to clear any danger. The forward players, however, kept playing poorly and did nothing special to find scoring chances.
But the substitutes came on and gave the Blaugranes a goal. Douglas Pereira picked up a nice overlapping run by Juan Cámara, who crossed the ball to Kaptoum, who calmly finished to score his first Barcelona goal.
Final whistle, a place in the Cup decider, and a record-breaking game with the youngsters. Safe to say it's a good night.
