Barcelona's shaky defense is about to become a lot more stronger in the weekend game against Sevilla.
Zamora Trophy-winnning goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has passed every test he's been through over the last few days, and is fully recovered from the calf injury that sidelined the Chilean for the last four weeks. After missing six games over that period, Bravo watched his teammate Marc-André ter Stegen have a tough time alongside his defense partners, and Barça has simply been hemorrhaging goals in the absence of the Chilean.
According to reports from Catalan media, coach Luis Enrique has already decided to make a goalkeeping switch, and an official announcement on Bravo's medical clearance will come up before the game. The return on Saturday also helps Claudio's status with the Chilean national team, that has a huge encounter with Neymar-less Brazil in the opening match of the South American Qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup. In fact, Bravo's participation in the international break will also help Barça, since he'll be very close to full match fitness once he comes back to his club.
Ter Stegen is good, but he needs some time off right now to be away from the spotlight and work on improving his game. With Bravo back, our defense just feels more secure, and that will be huge against a very offensive Sevilla team.
Welcome back, Bravo.
