Report: Liverpool no longer pursuing Barcelona full-back after coaching change

It is going to be hard for Barcelona to get any money out of Martín Montoya, it seems.

Premier League contenders Liverpool were constantly llinked with a potential transfer bid for the La Masia product, who's now a loanee at Inter Milan, and after failing to sign the Spaniard last summer, it looked like the Reds were ready to launch another offer for Montoya.

The Jürgen Klopp happened.

Liverpool has ditched a bid to bring in Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya in January following Jurgen Klopp's arrival at Anfield.

The Reds have been on the trail of Montoya, now on loan at Inter Milan, for years after he was identified as a top target by Brendan Rodgers. But new boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear he isn't interested.

Barça had been willing to recall the Spanish defender in January because he is not getting enough game time in Italy. But now he looks likely to stay put, with agent Juan De Dios Carrasco saying: "We believe he needs more time to adapt and there are no plans to leave. Barcelona have loaned him for two seasons and that remains the same."

Since arriving in Italy, where he was supposed to finally get more minutes than at Catalonia, Montoya has been almost discarded as a full-back option under Roberto Mancini, and it looks like his future does not involve moving to England to maybe get more minutes at Liverpool.

Damn, Klopp. Damn.
