La Liga: FC Barcelona 3-1 SD Eibar: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's comeback win against Eibar.

A solid if unspectacular game from Bravo who continued his streak of games with at least a goal allowed. Made four saves on the night, but was beaten by a long range effort after he was left out of position after making the initial save. Bravo was actually beaten once more, late in the first half, as he was left sprawling on the ground after a lovely Keko dribble, but was bailed out by a goal-line clearance.

It was nice to see some sort of evolution from Dani. He had a solid game defensively, which is the only thing that matters after his streak of unbelievably horrible performances on that end. Had a quite match on offense, but wasn't reponsible for the goal allowed and did his job. Not the greatest game we've seen from Alves, but it's tough to expect that from him lately, so it's acceptable.
Marc Bartra

Bostjan says: 5.0

Had a shaky performance, highlighted (or lowlighted) by the terrible mistake that led to Eibar's opening goal. Also had a couple of misplaced passes, but also had an acceptable overall performance. Needs improvement, however.

Gerard Pique

Good couple of games for the boyfriend of Shakira, who had a strong performance, and was the best of the center-back pairing. Was important in the passing game as well, and was solid defensively in a game in which the Blaugrana didn't allow many chances. Encouraging.

Jordi Alba
6.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 86
Passes: 75

Bostjan says: 7.0

Alba is still searching for his best game offensively, and he did improve on that front in the second half. Was impressive on defense, though, with some key interceptions and clearances. Also showed some good accuracy on his passing, but needs to improve in what makes him special: that surprise factor on offense.

Javier Mascherano
5.8
Minutes played: 83
Touches: 79
Passes: 66
Pass Accuracy: 88%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 6
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 1
Turnovers: 0
Aerial Duels Won: 3
Key Passes: 1
Fouls Won: 1

Sam says: 6.5

A rating severely hurt by his needless red card towards the end of the match. Before his dismissal, Mascherano was playing very deep, effectively as a third center back, which allowed the other two midfielders to focus on their attacking play. He make six tackles and an interception to protect a vulnerable back four. His red card was silly though, seemingly for a comment about the linesmen and it could’ve made Barcelona’s task a lot harder were it not for Luis Suárez.

Ivan Rakitić
6.3
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 59
Passes: 51
Pass Accuracy: 78%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/1
Turnovers: 4
Key Passes: 1
Successful Dribbles: 0
Tackles: 1

Sam says: 6.5

Another quiet game from the Croatian. Being the only recognized attacking midfielder on the pitch, you would’ve expected the attacking play to come through him but it was actually Busquets who performed this role. Rakitić struggled to have any real influence on the game and his wayward passing could be an explanation for that. He managed a success rate of 78%, to put that into context Barcelona midfielders regularly get in and around the 90% mark, and he couldn’t create any real goal-scoring chances.

Sergio Busquets 7.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 69
Passes: 60
Pass Accuracy: 82%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Fouls Won: 3
Turnovers: 1
Successful Dribbles: 0
Key Passes: 1
Tackles: 3

Sam says: 8.0

Barcelona’s best midfield player and one of their best on the field. With Mascherano playing behind him, Busquets was allowed to push forward and play a more Xavi-like role. He was consistently picking up the ball and looking to play the pas that would create a chance. It was his through ball that found Sandro who in turn found Suárez for the equaliser and this was theme he continued with the whole night. He also put in a solid defensive performance with the three tackles and two interceptions.

Sandro Ramirez
6.3
Minutes played: 55
Touches: 18
Passes: 12
Pass Accuracy: 92%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/0
Turnovers: 1
Successful Dribbles: 0
Key Passes: 1
Fouls Won: 0
Tackles: 0

Bostjan says: 6.0

Other than the beautiful assist to the opening goal, Sandro was quiet and couldn't bring any danger to the game. But with two world-class attackers in unbelievable form beside him, Sandro did a solid job of not getting in their way.

Luis Suarez
8.7
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 41
Passes: 25
Pass Accuracy: 72%
Shots/Shots on Target: 6/4
Fouls Won: 4
Successful Dribbles: 3
Key Passes: 0
Turnovers: 1
Tackles: 2

Hat-trick! What else can be said about Suárez's sensational performance on Sunday? El Pistolero showed his deadly scoring instinct with some awesome goals. The third one was a beauty. To control with his chest and bury home like that, it just demonstrated what incredible of a striker he is. What a way to celebrate one year as a Blaugrana.

Neymar
8.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 82
Passes: 54
Pass Accuracy: 76%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/0
Successful Dribbles: 3
Key Passes: 5
Fouls Won: 6
Turnovers: 5

Bostjan says: 8.5

Didn't score like Suárez, but was just as impressive. The Brazilian was once again the boss, taking the role as a right-footed Messi and controlling the game from the outside in. Had two assists, including a great individual play to ignite the third goal. If Sunday taught us anything about Neymar, is that he doesn't need his scoring boots to affect the match heavily.

Munir El Haddadi
6.0
Minutes played: 35
Touches: 22
Passes: 14
Pass Accuracy: 71%
Turnovers: 3

Bostjan says: 6.0
Like Sandro, Munir also didn't impress on the pitch. The effort was certainly there, but the end product was lacking. Munir continues to show that he's an asses defensively, something Sandro hasn't been able to do on a consistent basis.
Jeremy Mathieu
6.7
Minutes played: 35
Touches: 35
Passes: 27
Pass Accuracy: 85%
Interceptions: 2

Bostjan says: 6.5

An encouraging cameo for the Frenchman who surprisingly replaced Bartra early in the second half. His strong positional sense came into play often, as did his good anticipation skills as he was able to make a few good defensive plays. Was even allowed the space to make a powerful run up the pitch.

The Team 7.0
Passes: 610
Pass Accuracy: 85%
Shots/Shots on Target: 14/5
Tackles: 17
Aerial Battles Won: 59%
Fouls Won/Committed: 18/14

Bostjan says: 7.5

Collectively, it was a better game than what we saw against Rayo last week. The midfield was a lot more present and controlled the game well. The individual brilliance of the two best players on the team was still the key component to get a win, but the overall effort was consistent and pleasing. First real good performance sans Messi.

Luis Enrique
6.8

Bostjan says: 6.0

There's not really a whole lot Lucho can change during this time as the injuries are often dictating which eleven he sends on the pitch, but the fact that Barcelona continue to give up soft goals has to concern him. With the overly aggressive play Eibar exhibited over the last minute of the game Enrique really should've made a third substitution to protect one of his star players, especially after Suarez's third goal - regardless of the limited options on the bench.

MOTM - Luis Suarez
73%

Bostjan says: Suarez

It rarely happens that the player that scores the hat-trick doesn't win the Man of the Match award - and it was no different in this one as Suarez ran out a deserved winner. The only one with a possible shout at the award was Barcelona's main creator, Neymar, but he finished a distant second with 17%. Joining the two forwards on the podium was Busquets with 5% of the votes.
