Barcelona targeting Roma star midfielder on Luis Enrique's orders

Barcelona have now been linked with a lot of players, especially because the January transfer window is rapidly approaching and the Blaugrana are no longer banned by FIFA and can sign players. The newest rumored potential signing involves a player who began to shine under current Barça coach Luis Enrique, and is now a football star.

Italian outlet Corriere della Serra reports on Monday that Enrique requested the signing of AS Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic, who played under the Asturian manager in his only season with the Italian giants. The Bosnian playmaker has developed a lot since then, and has had a phenomenal start to this season, helping the Rome side fight for the Serie A lead early on, trailing Fiorentina by only one point after eight matches.

Highly rated because of his passing and playmaking skills, Pjanic has blossomed into a goalscorer as well in this campaign, scoring one beautiful free-kick after another. He's also only 25 years old, and can play as a top midfielder for at least another half decade, which makes his signing a guarantee of long-term success.

The only problem for a Blaugrana team believed to be cutting costs this season is Pjanic's market value, which is believed to be at around €40 million. Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan, also rumored to be a Barça target, would also cost the same for the Catalan giants. If the interest in both is real, then Barça would need to make a decision of which player to pursue.

If Enrique's opinion matters -- which it does --, then Pjanic is the prefereed option.
