Report: FC Barcelona Officially Discard Juan Cuadrado Signing

If you were still waiting for him, forget it.

If you still had a glimpse of hope that FC Barcelona might sign Juan Cuadrado, please put that away.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan side has officially discarded the signing of the 26-year-old. Barça officials have even called Cuadrado's agent to inform him of their decision. Instead, the Colombia star is staying at his current club, Fiorentina.

The reason why Barça gave up on the efforts of signing the player is very simple: Cuadrado did not want to replace Dani Alves and be a full-back. He insisted that he would only come to Camp Nou if he played as a winger. Luis Enrique originally planned to have Cuadrado as the new Alves, but in light of the player's refusal, he moved on and decided to agree with the board's decision of signing Brazilian right-back Douglas Pereira.

The other candidate to land Cuadrado, Manchester United, also went on another path, and signed Real Madrid star Angel Di María, breaking Britain's transfer record. According to sources, both Barça and United thought of Cuadrado as "too demanding" for a player coming from a smaller club, and they decided to sign better locker room guys. Also, the high salary demands of the player, and the €50 million asking price of Fiorentina made the candidates back off.

So there it is, Barça fans. If you wanted Cuadrado, he's not coming. What do you think?
