The legend has reiterated his desire to manage at the Camp Nou
Barcelona legend Xavi has once again reiterated his desire to return to the Camp Nou and manage the club at some point in the future.
The 41-year-old, who is currently in charge of Qatari side Al Sadd, was approached last year about taking over from Ernesto Valverde but turned Barca down because he felt the timing wasn’t right.
Xavi has now given an interview to Fifa where he’s acknowledged the frequent links with his former club but insisted he has total respect for current boss Ronald Koeman.
“Everyone sees me as the Barca coach one day. I respect Barca a lot and I also have respect for Koeman, the current coach.
“But I hope [to return as coach]. I won’t hide that, but with respect for the current management team at the club, who are in the middle of [three] competitions, and I wish them the best.
“We will see who comes in as president in the next month. But of course, it’s a dream to coach Barca. There’s no doubt about that.”
Koeman was asked about his future after Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to PSG and insisted it was “crazy” to suggest he might step down. Yet there will be scrutiny on the Barca boss after another tough night in Europe and with elections approaching.
