No offers made and no talks currently either
Lionel Messi’s future continues to be the subject of speculation but the chances of the captain swapping Barcelona for Manchester City may be reducing.
The 33-year-old has been linked with Pep Guardiola’s side and Paris Saint-Germain, but BBC Sport are reporting that City are “distancing themselves from links” with the forward.
The report says a club source has denied “City have tabled a revised offer for Messi” and also says “no offers have been made” and “there are currently no talks” either.
Sky Sports are carrying a similar report and reckon they’ve been told from a City source that “there have been no offers made, either in the summer, or since, and there are no talks.”
City look set for another trophy-laden season. After a slow start, Guardiola’s side are 10 points clear in the Premier League, into the EFL Cup final and still in contention in the FA Cup and Champions League.
The club are also expected to spend big yet again in the summer to bring in a replacement for Sergio Aguero. Players such as Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe have all been linked with City as well as Messi.
PSG look set for an interesting summer too. Mbappe’s future remains a little uncertain as he’s yet to extend his contract that expires in 2022. If the striker does decide he wants out then he will certainly not lack for offers.
Neymar is also out of contract next year but was thought to be close to a new four-year deal with the Ligue 1 side. It’s not clear if PSG would be able to afford to bring in Messi if Neymar and Mbappe both extend their current deals at the Parc des Princes.
