The defender is on the way back from a sprained ankle
Barcelona center-back Ronald Araujo is closing in on a return to action after suffering a sprained ankle against Real Betis and could be back in the squad next week.
The Uruguay international has missed Barca’s last three games and will also sit out Sunday’s visit from Cadiz in La Liga.
However, he could be fit enough to make the squad for the visit of Elche on Wednesday or, failing that, the trip to Sevilla on Saturday in La Liga, according to Sport.
The report reckons Araujo’s recovery is going “at a good pace,” although manager Ronald Koeman will not rush him back and does not want to take any risks in case of further injury.
Araujo’s return will be a big boost for Barca and will also give Koeman a bit of a selection headache in defense as Gerard Pique is also fit and available once again.
Barca’s defensive issues have been a problem all season once again, and the team have failed to keep a clean sheet since a 2-0 win over Elche almost a month ago.
