The B team boss has had his say
Barcelona B coach Francisco Javier García Pimienta has been talking about the club’s young players and feels the club needs to trust in their young stars.
Youngsters such as Oscar Mingueza and Ronald Araujo have made the step up to the first team this season and featured regularly under Ronald Koeman.
The Dutch coach has also handed Ilaix Moriba his first-team debut and seems to be slowly realizing that playing Riqui Puig might be a good idea too.
García Pimienta has urged his club to believe in youth and give the youngsters a chance.
“We are talking about the Barça DNA, but within the DNA you have to be a winner and competitive. This club aspires to win everything. If you don’t have a winning mentality within your DNA, you can’t play here.
“The Barça DNA is a different way of understanding football - that they truly understand the game, they use both legs, they position themselves well, they think faster than others and that before receiving they already know what to do
“There are players who have the right profile and can play in the first team. You have to bet on them. This is what happened with Pep, if you give confidence to these players they can play and win in the first team.
“I assure you there are players with this profile & that they can play in the first team, then there are other circumstances. But we must be faithful, believe, and give these players a chance, I am convinced that they have a level to spare.”

Barca’s precarious financial situation means that the club may be forced to bet on youth in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, García Pimienta handed yet another youngster a Barca B debut on Sunday.
The B team coach gave 16-year-old Pablo Páez Gavira ‘Gavi’ minutes in Sunday’s 6-0 win over L’Hospitalet. The midfielder is the 14th player to make his debut for Barca B under García Pimienta.
