The latest from the Barcelona boss

Ronald Koeman faced the press on Saturday to chat about Barcelona’s next game against Cadiz in La Liga at the Camp Nou tomorrow.

The Barcelona boss talked about the defeat to PSG, Gerard Pique and Antoine Griezmann and how Sergino Dest can improve.

Here are the best bits:

Koeman on Cadiz

After a defeat, it is always good to have a match afterward to show that we can be better and get a better result. We have a good track record in La Liga and we have to continue. We have a lot of ambition and we have to react.

Koeman his message to his team

As I said after the game, the world does not end. We have to analyze the games, our mistakes, and improve things. The other day we were not at our best with the ball, we lost too many balls and gave away too many options on the counter. I hope we come out strong and win the game.

Koeman on Barca’s objectives

We are still in the three competitions. The Champions League is very complicated, but in the Cup if we are more effective we can come back. I think we can go through. In La Liga we have a good track record, but it depends on those at the top. I’m not so negative. We are Barça and we have good players.

Koeman on his priorities

My priority is the next game. It’s the best way to win games. I don’t think it’s good to think of the Sevilla game in the Copa del Rey because we have three games before then. Every game is important especially after our defeat against PSG. We need to be strong and win every game.

Koeman on if he wants to sign Erling Haaland

We’ll have to wait to see who is the president and sit down with him and see what signings we can make for the future of the club.

Koeman on Barca form

We won away at Juve and lost at home. We lost against PSG but we can win there. We missed things against PSG but it’s just one game. It’s difficult to say we don’t perform well against top teams because sometimes we do. The stats against PSG weren't that different between the two teams but they were more clinical in front of goal. We are not missing anything to be a top team, we are a top team. We’ve had good moments, bad moments, we had chances, I don’t think the other teams are superior. We can beat any team. We must show what we are capable of in every game. It’s difficult with so many injuries.

Koeman on Pique fitness

Gerard is doing well. We did well to let him play 60-70 minutes against PSG. He’s continued to train well, he rested two days, he trained well yesterday and today and he’s available for this weekend.

Koeman on morale

I think it’s normal that the morale is down right now after that defeat. It’s a good attitude because it means that you care. The first training session after the morale was a bit lower than other days but I think that’s good because if it doesn’t affect us it means you don’t feel the badge. In today’s training, the team has been a lot better, like before, and looking forward to tomorrow’s game.

Koeman on Grizemann and Pique spat

For me in a game, there is a lot of emotion so it’s normal that things happen between players. It’s important to communicate, I think that’s good and I think it’s important to react when you are losing. There’s no time to speak nicely and say please, it’s a moment of a lot of tension, so during a game it’s normal this happens. I have no problem, I like that. But after the game, you must talk and communicate to have a good relationship between everyone. We must make the most out of ourselves to win the game. We mustn’t stay quiet, I don’t like that attitude, I think it’s fine.

Koeman on Sergino Dest

Maybe because he has not been playing regularly and because he has had some injuries, that was an influence on his participation in the team. He’s 20 but he needs to learn, he needs to be more aggressive, he needs to be more concentrated. He had too many periods where he was not 100 percent focused. We spoke to him about this. But he’s a young player, that’s good, but he needs to learn it. With all the positives he can bring to the team, he needs to learn it’s a big step to play for Barcelona than to play in Holland. He needs time, he needs advice, but it starts with the player himself
