The defender says he wore the GOAT’s shirt as a kid
Moussa Wague has penned a letter reflecting on his first season at Barcelona after joining from Belgian KAS Eupen.
The Senegal international has been part of the Barcelona B sqaud but did make three appearances for the senior team in La Liga.
Wague spoke about how he had settled in at the club but still seems completely overawed by captain Lionel Messi.
“I remember my arrival in Barcelona. I didn’t know anyone. Well, I knew their faces from the television. Fortunately, everybody welcomed me like a new member of the Blaugrana family. Firstly at Barça B, and then with the first team. In the beginning, the jokes that Piqué and Suárez allowed me to relieve some of the pressure.
“It made me realise that they were just normal guys… well, almost normal! I’ve never got that feeling with Messi. I haven’t dared to spend much time around him for the moment. What would he think if he knew that I wore his shirt when I was little? Maybe one day he’ll give me one of his real shirts, perhaps?”

Wague will be in action over the summer as he has been called into the 23-man Senegal squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
