Falcao defends Messi after Copa America defeat

The striker says the captain gets a raw deal

Radamel Falcao has defended Lionel Messi after helping Colombia beat Argentina 2-0 in their opening game of the Copa America.

Goals from Roger Martinez and Duvan Zapata meant it was a tough start for Messi’s team, but Falcao feels the Barcelona captain gets a tough time on international duty.

“Messi was close to scoring against us, but he is sure to convert in the next couple of matches,” he said.

“If Messi scores a goal, people ask for two. If he scores a free-kick, they’ll say the wall wasn’t set up properly. If Argentina lose, it will be talked about like it was his fault.

“That’s the price you pay for being the best player in the world.”
