Barca explain why they did not sign Take Kubo

The former La Masia starlet has joined Real Madrid

Barcelona spokesman Josep Vives has tried to explain why the club did not sign Take Kubo.

The Japanese starlet joined Barcelona as a 10-year-old and spent four years at the Camp Nou but was forced to leave after the club were sanctioned for breaking FIFA regulations on signing young players.

Kubo went to FC Tokyo and was linked with a return to Barcelona but has now been snapped up by Real Madrid instead.

Here’s what Vives had to say when asked about the 18-year-old and why Barcelona did not make a move.

According to Marca, Real Madrid snapped up Kubo for free when his contract expired on June 1, while Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain thought his deal ran until 31 January 2020 because it said so on Transfermarkt.

Los Blancos have paid FC Tokyo €2m for the 18-year-old and handed him a six-year deal worth €1m a season, according to Sid Lowe at the Guardian. He will play for their Castilla side next season but may be promoted to the first team after that.
