It’s win or go home for Messi and the Albiceleste
The 2019 Copa America sees on Sunday the end of Group B, with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi trying to help his Argentina side qualify for the quarterfinals when they face Qatar in Porto Alegre.
The job for the 2016 finalists sound simple: win 1-0 and that’s it. They’ll have to see if Paraguay can beat Colombia’s reserves or not to find out if they’ll qualify in second or third place in the group, but getting three points will be enough to move on to the next round.
It only sounds like a simple task, though: Argentina have given no indications in the first two games that they can actually win a football match regardless of the opponent, and since Qatar have played better than Argentina up to this point they may be the better team, as crazy as it sounds.
Messi needs to step up as the best player on his team and the planet, but he needs some help from the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Agüero and Lautaro Martínez who are all expected to start this one. It’ll be a tense but supportive atmosphere at the Arena do Grêmio which should be full of Argentina fans, and it really is a must-see game.
