We are set for another El Clásico. This time in the transfer market.
According to multiple reports in Spain, Barcelona have joined their fierce rivals Real Madrid in the race to sign one of the Bundesliga brightest prospects, Bayer Leverkusen full-back Wendell. The Brazilian has become one of the most promising players in his position, and has caught the attention from almost all European giants.
Both Barça and Madrid are in dire need of a quality backup in the full-back position. Madrid always suffer when their star Marcelo isn't available, and they have no left-back to play in his place when needed. Barça can rely on the consistency of Jordi Alba, who almost never gets injured and has the fitness to play many positions. But the Spanish international has not played his best football this season, and the Blaugrana could be looking for an alternative if he starts to decline.
The problem for both teams is the price: Leverkusen are asking at least €35 million in order to start any negotiations, a hefty sum for a backup player. But football is overpriced these days, and the two Spanish giants certainly have the funds to afford a potential transfer.
A few Premier League teams are also linked with Wendell, who will be on the news a lot in the upcoming months. If the reports are accurate, he could end up in Spain.
