Barcelona managed to end their winless streak with an emphatic win against Deportivo La Coruña on Wednesday and today the Catalans will look to maintain first place on the league table against relegation threatened Sporting Gijon, who are coming off an important 2-1 win against Sevilla.
With many returning from injury absences and suspensions recently, Luis Enrique's job of naming players for the match squad is become easier. Three players, Jeremy Mathieu, Thomas Vermaelen and Sandro Ramirez were ruled out with injuries, while Jordi Masip, Douglas Pereira and, inexplicably, Aleix Vidal were left on the outside looking in. This means, that despite and injury scare Lionel Messi is available and Gerard Pique makes his return after a one game suspension.
The 18-man squad list is as follows:
Goalkeepers: 1. Marc-André ter Stegen, 13. Claudio Bravo
Defenders: 3. Gerard Pique, 6. Dani Alves, 14. Javier Mascherano, 15. Marc Bartra, 18. Jordi Alba, 21. Adriano Correia
Midfielders: 4. Ivan Rakitic, 5. Sergio Busquets, 7. Arda Turan, 8. Andrés Iniesta, 12. Rafinha Alcântara, 20. Sergi Roberto
Forwards: 9. Luis Suárez, 10. Lionel Messi, 11. Neymar Jr., 17. Munir El-Haddadi
Projected Starting Lineup (4-3-3):
Bravo; Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Alba; Busquets, Rakitic, Iniesta; Messi, Suárez, Neymar
