Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves delivered another performance for the ages on Sunday as his team defeat Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou, with the Brazilian stopping nearly every shot and denying the Blaugrana with big save after big save.
Unfortunately, another Brazilian was in the headlines on Sunday, and not in a good way. Neymar was out of control, offending teammates, slapping opponents and even (allegedly) throwing a water bottle in the locker room, which could result in a suspension for the Barça forward, who is going through maybe his worst run of form as a Blaugrana.
The Spanish media used this as another opportunity to viciously attack Neymar for his personality, which many don't view as Barça-type. According to Alves, the media is reaching ridiculous levels with his Brazilian national teammate, and defended Neymar for his actions on Sunday.
"Neymar was just being himself. I talked to him before the game and he was calm, there were no problems. I think [the media] they have it in for him, it happens to everyone, but more so for Neymar or Messi, they are always creating controversy.
"[Neymar and Messi] are used to this type of situation. I didn't really see what happened because I was giving an on-field interview after the match, but I saw that they had a scuffle and these things happen. When it is all said and done, everyone goes home and that is the end of it."
