The Blaugrana have tied down the Spanish winger until 2019.
Despite buzz that Pedro Rodriguez would leave Barcelona in the summer in search of more playing time, the winger has agreed to renew his contract to stay at the Camp Nou for 4 more seasons. His buyout clause remains at 150 million euros.
The Canary Islander has been at the club for over a decade among the youth and senior ranks, and won his fifth league and third Copa del Rey Championship this season.
Due to the arrival of Luis Suarez and Neymar, Pedro has not featured as often as he'd like. However, he's not one to complain and has instead focused on contributing when called upon.
He has scored six goals and given six assists in the league, as well as two assists in the Champions League. His five goals in the Copa Del Rey put him as tied for third in the competition for top scorer. He also gave the assist for Lionel Messi's league-clinching goal against Atletico Madrid.
Comfortable with either foot, Pedro has played just as often on the left wing as on the right, and even featured as a center forward, midfielder or wingback depending on the situation. Known for his selfless play, tireless running, defensive contribution, and knack for big goals, Pedro's renewal will likely make the dressing room happy as well.
It will be interesting how coach Luis Enrique deploys Pedro next season. With Dani Alves possibly not returning, some are wondering whether Lucho will field Pedro as a right-back. If not, he will remain a jack-of-all trades upfront for Lucho to use as he sees fit.
