Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has confirmed that Eric Abidal will return to the club as a sporting director if he wins the election. Laporta, who was president between 2003 and 2010, has confirmed he is running in next month's election and he was the overwhelming leader in recent readers' polls conducted by Madrid-based papers AS and Marca.

"[Messi] is a value of Barca, and Luis Enrique has known how to get very good things out of him," he said. "I do not have telepathy, but when I want to speak with him I call him and that's it. We are closing a winning cycle and opening another, but in silence."
