It's matchday, the biggest one of the season! Barcelona and Juventus will face off at the historical Olympic Stadium of Berlin to decide which team is winning the treble. Both have won their respective league and league cups, and they are one European title away from making history this campaign.
As always, the tactical aspects are huge for such big games, and we try to guess the teams each manager will line up today. Starting with the hosts:
Juventus (4-3-1-2):
Buffon
Lichtsteiner-Barzagli-Bonucci-Evra
Marchisio-Pirlo-Pogba
Vidal
Tévez-Morata
With the awful news of star center-back Giorgio Chielini missing the game due to a surprise calf injury, Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri doesn't really have a great option to replace his best defender: while Andrea Barzagli is an experienced, World Cup-winning center-back, he's not nearly as talented and tactically smart as Chiellini, plus he's nursing a hamstring injury of his own which will definitely limit his impact on the game.
The other option, Ogbonna, has not played much this season, so it would be a tough decision to put him on the pitch for the biggest match of the year. The loss of Chiellini is huge, but the midfield is intact and just tremendously talented, and could be the part of the pitch that decides the game in favor of the Bianconeri.
Barcelona (4-3-3):
ter Stegen
Alves-Piqué-Mascherano-Alba
Rakitic-Busquets-Iniesta
Messi-Suárez-Neymar
No problems here. The classic starting lineup, known as "Gala Eleven", is the safest and smartest choice for coach Luis Enrique tonight, especially considering the form this group is enjoying as of late, A.K.A. "half of 2015". The 'MSN' trio up front has scored 120 goals this season, and will be the Blaugrana's biggest weapon against a weakened Juventus defense. Will MSN take advantage of Chiellini's absence, or will Juve rise to the occasion?
One thing we know for sure: it will be an epic match. Don't miss it.
