Excellent news for Bayern Munich as they try to come back from a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona on Tuesday night.
During Monday's training session, coach Pep Guardiola was happy to see Sebastian Rode back on the pitch. Perhaps the most underrated and versatile member of the squad, Rode was surprisingly sidelined from the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal at Camp Nou due to a hamstring problem. He was initially ruled out of the whole tie due to a three-week prognosis, but his rehab process went way ahead of schedule and the German is now ready for selection.
With 27 appearances this season, along with three goals and five assists, the 24-year-old became a key component of Guardiola's rotation over the last several months. His versatility has proven vital as the Catalan manager had to constantly tweak his lineups to deal with the multiple injuries his squad suffered during the 2015 campaign. Able to play every midfield position and either defensive flank slot, Rode is the guy that mimics what David Alaba was able to do so well until he suffered some serious injuries of his own.
Rode can be the wildcard Pep uses to surprise the Blaugrana on his starting lineup. For instance, Rode could start in place of Rafinha under the right-back label, but quickly move to midfield and give Bayern a numbers advantage on that fundamental part of the pitch, creating a big mismatch for Barça's mids, who would need help from the three forwards to come back and defend even more.
However, Rode is not 100%, and he might play on a minutes restriction. He is probably going to be featured on the second half, and he will be a problem whenever he comes into the pitch.
